The Wandering Room will be opening a ‘pop up’ art space on Grey Street South bank from the 8th August that is to begin at the shop formally known as Egg. We have devised a model for this space that involves studio workspace for The Wandering Room and either one or a small number of artists.  

Studio space will be granted via short application to The Wandering Room and will most likely be offered as a two-week or one month period which will culminate in an afternoon tea exhibition. Your studio space will be visible to the public and so it must be active and grow and develop over your allotted time. In setting up your work we encourage you to think beyond the confines of the shop and where appropriate bring your work out onto the pavement of Grey Street itself. 

This opportunity would be most suitable for artists currently with work in progress; people seeking space; people who have diverse and experimental practice; people who work in 3D, performance, new media or contemporary practice and who have time to occupy the space during the day or night to make it work.

In order to express your interest please see the attached form. We hope to make up a roster based on applications and invitations as well as having a ‘waiting list’. The waiting list will be a second tier of offers and will be utilised in the event that the space is hard to fill, someone becomes unavailable, or if time allocations are changed.

As our time at Egg is temporary we hope to take this model to other locations on Grey Street as new shop tenants move in and other spaces become vacant. In light of this and as August 1 is just around the corner please send in your forms and expressions of interests and questions as soon as possible. This is prime real estate not to miss out on!!
