OPEN STUDIO NIGHTS - METRO ARTS

 

From April to August 2013, David Creed and Angela Rossitto took part in the Metro Arts Open Studio Program (which occurred on the first Friday of every month). During that time we continued to investigate different ways of working with copper.

 

For the first of our Open Studio Nights we presented works from our Expensive Objects series while stripping copper from electrical cords. The expensive objects include Datta Phuge’s Shirt, The Star of Africa and The Pearl of Allah.

 

For the second of our Open studio Nights we allowed visitors a glimpse into our copper mint where we continually ran the German film The Counterfeiters.

 

For the third of our Open Studio Nights we presented a copper graph based on stock market information from a US copper mining company.

 

For our fourth Open Studio we presented two works from our Expensive Objects series on found garden furniture as if in a show room. One was a Lamborghini Veneno, the most expensive car in the world. The other was one of Faberge's priceless bejewelled egg sculptures.

 

At our fifth Open Studio we finally made reference to the retro and defunct retail outlet, Copperart. We showed videos of ourselves collecting copper from kerbside collection. Our video combined this with footage from old Copperart ads.
