IN_SECT - BOMB SHELTER

The Brisbane City Council held a sort of "Guerilla Knitting" sanctioned event, where local knitters and artists were asked to "bomb" the city with knitting. David Spooner chose the location of the Brisbane Sculpture Park, with adjoined Jacobs Ladder (the staircase) and old (and also ineffectual) bomb shelter. The work, which was recycled from the Gympie exhibition was installed on the night of the 1st of June, 2010, and Brisbane residents awoke to find their city taken over by knitting. Can Do does it again.

Gradually, the knitting disappeared. We were glad that our knitting was being taken by people who used it to keep warm. A piece of rogue knitting was later spotted on the corner of Upper Edward St and Leichart St, Spring Hill. This pithy patch would not have kept anybody warm, but later in the day, it had also disappeared. Hopefully it was picked up by Brisbane's mysterious art collector, the heart surgeon.
